On Friday 20th May 2022, PCB Radio DJ, Chris ‘Swifty’ Morgan will be cycling the whole of the A38 for children living with a brain condition and their families.

We’re talking 292 miles, making the A38 the second longest A-road in the whole of the UK! But, once you take into account the stages which will be on national cycle routes, Swifty’s journey will actually be 332 miles!

Swifty will saddle-up and begin his journey in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. His target will be to cycle at least 100 miles per day before crossing the finish line in Bodmin, Cornwall.

He’ll be cycling across ten counties, which will see him skirt his way around Birmingham, fairly early on, before taking in the glorious Worcestershire and Gloucestershire countryside. He’ll then hit the bright lights of Bristol and from there, it’s the final stretch across most of the South West of England all the way to Bodmin and a very well deserved rest!

Asked why he is taking on this challenge, Swifty said;

“My reasons behind setting the charity ride up is because my sister, Margaret is totally paralysed and can’t do anything for herself. Some years ago she could have played with adapted toys, but no longer, so I want to do things for kids who are severely disabled and I wanted to support a charity whose work included designing and providing equipment to support children with disabilities. I got in touch and had a wonderful chat with some of the Fundraising team at Cerebra who told me all about the charity. If I can make some children’s lives better in any way, I will be all over it! Seeing the smiles on the faces of the children they have helped fills you with a little glow, and if I can add to those smiles then I will ride this route in whatever weather conditions I encounter!”

It will be a 5am start for Swifty on 20th May as he gets the early-morning train to Mansfield. His first day will then come to an end some 101 miles away in Worcester, having taken in the sights of Burton upon Trent and Litchfield, to name just a couple.

We wouldn’t go as far as to say day 2 qualifies as a lie-in, but a 7am start is certainly more appealing. This will see him tick Gloucester and Bristol off his list, but where he’ll will stay for the night is yet to be decided! All we know so far is that it will be somewhere outside North Petherton!

Then it’s the home-straight all the way to Bodmin, if you can call another 110 miles a ‘home-straight!’

Swifty will arrive there on the evening of Sunday 22nd May before returning home the next morning – by the well-earned comfort of a train, you’ll be pleased to hear!

We’re so grateful to Swifty for taking on this awesome challenge for Cerebra! If he’s able to tweet or send us the odd pic on his journey, we’ll be sure to share with you on our social media, so please do keep a lookout and help cheer him on!

  1. Would be great to have a convey of people at the finish line in Bodmin. Where is the finish line exactly as I’m from Bodmin and would love to see them across the line with my family. My eldest has cerebral palsy.

    1. @REN … The A38 starts as a trunk road at a junction with the A30 north of Bodmin in Cornwall, so we will call it a end in Bodmin town center near Aldi …

      So will be somewhere in that area , we don’t know the town Im just using google maps to look at it , so any suggestions we would look at them. Swifty
