Our Library Brings Mum And Daughter Time

Our Library Service has helped Alexandra to play and engage with her mum since she was a baby.

A selection of toys available from cerebra's lending library

Three year old Alexandra likes jumping about, climbing as high as she can, going to the zoo and her iPad. She’s not so keen on loud noises, different textures and not knowing what she’s doing.

Her mum, Jessica, explains: “Alexandra’s condition affects our whole family as we have had to adapt our whole day, week, month into Alexandra’s routine and way of thinking. It can be really hard at times as Alexandra has a younger sister who I try really hard to make sure she is heard too”.

Jessica got in touch with our Library Service for some help as she knew Alexandra needed some things that could help her, but the family couldn’t afford to try out products to see what was suitable.

Jessica explains: “I was given access to both the book library and the toy library. The first thing we loaned was the sensory pack and that was AMAZING. Unfortunately, Alexandra doesn’t engage with me as other babies do their mums and so it was nice to have the sensory stuff to try and spend time together”.

Jessica and Alexandra have continued to use our Library over the years:
“As Alexandra’s got older she wanted to be on her trampoline all the time, but wasn’t able to. I saw that there was a bounce mat available for loan. We thought we would try it, and it has been amazing for her to get her energy out.

The Library has been a massive help to our family. Janet the librarian has felt like family at times, always so supportive and understanding. We have seen such a difference is Alexandra we couldn’t be more thankful for this amazing charity. Just thank you, thank you so so much”.

Our specialist postal library contains a wide range of books for both adults and children and a selection of toys specially chosen for children with brain conditions. Our service is free for anyone in the UK caring for a child with a brain condition and is easy to use.
