Linsie shares her story with us, introducing Lexi and how support from our Sleep and Library Services has made everyday life a little lighter for their family.
Meet Lexi
Lexi is 7 years old and full of imagination. She loves gaming, Roblox and Minecraft especially, and she’s always ready with a new fact or an experiment she wants to try. She’s happiest outside, making up games with lots of her own rules. She’s fairly easy‑going, but she likes her routines and to know what to expect.
Lexi also finds emotions and concentrating hard. Sometimes she doesn’t know what she’s feeling or how to express it. Day by day we get better at this. We’ve read lots of books and facts about ADHD to help her understand. She calls it her superpower.
Struggling With Sleep
Before we found the Sleep Service, Lexi was really struggling with calming her brain at bedtime. Getting to sleep felt like a battle for both of us. Things are gradually improving now, but back then we were stuck.
Talking things through with the sleep practitioner really helped. It made me realise that I have to be consistent and put in as much work as Lexi. She still has moments, but it’s much more pleasurable now. Lexi sleeps better, and that alone has made life feel lighter.
Discovering The Library
Then I came across the Library – which is amazing. We pick books to read together, and sometimes I choose ones for myself to help me better understand things. We’ve even purchased a few after having such good experiences with them.
Lexi looks forward to what books will arrive next. It’s become a nice little routine we have. There’s no stress about getting to a library on certain days, and the choice of books is great. Lexi feels part of it and helps choose what we read.
One month I asked for all the sleep‑related books, and I was sent sleep booklets and leaflets too. I love how personal this service feels.
A New World Of Sensory Play
I then discovered the Sensory Toy Library, which we’ve just started using. Lexi loves exploring different toys, and we already have plans to purchase some after having such a good experience with the sensory box in such a short time.
The Difference It’s Made
The support has helped Lexi understand ADHD much better, and helped us all understand it too. Most importantly, it’s helping her realise that she doesn’t have something ‘wrong’. She has a superpower.
For our family, the difference has been huge. Life feels lighter with the sleep help. The books have given me time back in the evenings with my husband. And everything feels more manageable because we’re learning together.
I tell everyone about this service. I’m so very grateful.
