Professionals Sleep Training

The Cerebra Intermediate Paediatric Sleep Advice Consultant (CIPSAC) training is designed to give future sleep consultants all the necessary tools to fully assess and support the sleep of children with additional needs.

This qualification was designed using the research of The Cerebra Network. The Cerebra Network is a collaborative research initiative led by Cerebra, a charity focused on improving the lives of children with neurological conditions and their families. The network brings together expertise and resources from four leading academic institutions in the UK— Warwick University, Aston University, Surrey University, and Birmingham University. To find out more about the Network please visit the Cerebra Network website.

This CPD-accredited training course will give you all the tools and learning needed to become a sleep consultant and to begin supporting children with additional needs and their families with their sleep. It is planned to be OCN accredited as well.

What does the course involve?

The course is divided into two parts – online and face-to-face:

Online:

  • The course will begin with required online sessions to give you the base learning. This will involve approximately 10 hours of active learning.
  • It includes five online assessments with accompanying support from Cerebra staff including personalised feedback and liaison if needed.
  • You will receive an accompanying workbook with practical useable tools for your practice.
  • Once you have successfully completed the online training, you can then move on to the face-to-face training.

Face-to-Face:

The face-to face element will be held over three days and focuses on improving outcomes for children with additional needs.

This part of the training will cover current research recommendations, social work theory, psychology and sociology as well as behaviour theory. This course will include parental support, assessment theories, and creating active workable support plans and interventions.

This course will develop your skills by focusing on psychology, relational approaches, behaviourism, specialist knowledge on genetic conditions, info bites from a multidisciplinary team of doctors and professors, follow-up support, and a full-rounded introduction to becoming a sleep consultant.

It will include case studies and an accompanying workbook to embed and consolidate all the learning, as well as a final assessment with written feedback from our team.

Who is the course suitable for?

This course is for anyone who has an interest in helping children with additional needs and their families with their sleep. For example, school nurses, health workers, family support workers, CAHMS and mental health teams, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, counsellors, nursery workers, nannies, maternity health workers and students.

It would be beneficial to have a level 3 (or equivalent) qualification in a relevant subject, as well as GCSE English.

Over the three days your needs will be taken care of, you will have access to all refreshments and a healthy lunch on each day, also giving you some time to reflect and get to know the Cerebra Sleep Team and other delegates.
