Together we can give more newborn babies a fighting chance

In the UK, 60,000 babies are born prematurely each year.

Babies born prematurely have a significantly higher risk of developing a life-changing brain condition.

Every newborn baby deserves a fighting chance.

Making a difference through life-changing research

Our aim is simple – to reduce the number of babies being born with brain injury. If we can do that many more babies will have the start in life that they deserve.

Across the UK, our research programmes already help to improve the lives of children and their families. But what if we could predict these risks earlier in pregnancy and then intervene to reduce the impact a brain condition will have on a child’s life? Or even go as far as eliminating the chances of a condition from developing altogether?

That’s just what our research at the Cerebra Perinatal Research Centre is working to achieve.

Whilst most women can enjoy a healthy and uncomplicated pregnancy, 60,000 babies are born premature in the UK each year and this is a key cause of neonatal brain injury and later childhood disability.

By better understanding the complications that can occur during pregnancy, we can develop the specific diagnostic and preventative measures to protect mother and baby from harm and achieve our aim.
