It was around five years ago when we first met Enna Thea and her mum, Catherine when they contacted our Innovation Centre. Enna Thea has Cerebral Palsy and uses a walker and a wheelchair to get around. We were proud to design a product to help easily carry the walker when they were both out together, so that they never again had to choose between the walker and the wheelchair. Our design team even went on to build Enna Thea her very own sleigh so that she wouldn’t miss out on a Christmas ice skating party with friends.
Giving something back to families
Five years on and with the current emergency situation, Enna Thea wants to give something back by raising funds for families and carers looking after children with a brain condition. She’s even got school friend, Iris onboard and we’re so grateful to them both.
Over a period of two-weeks, they’ll be leaving their respective homes at the same time and then, through FaceTime on their mobile phones, they’ll be completing multiple stages of 2 miles until they reach their 13-mile goal. Enna Thea and Iris are even hoping that they’ll be able to plan a route for their final stage that will see them cross the finish line together… socially distancing, of course.
“I wanted to do something to raise funds, particularly for those caring for a child with Cerebral Palsy and I had seen someone else in a walker doing a similar challenge. I thought to myself, that’s what I’d like to do!’ Said Enna Thea when asked what inspired her to take on a half marathon.
And the girls can’t wait to get started! Iris adds, ‘It will be great for Enna Thea and I to spend time together. We may be having to socially distance but we’ll still be doing something amazing and worthwhile together!’
Difficult time for families
This is a very difficult time for so many children and their families. With schools closed and access to care severely limited, it’s even more vital that we can continue to be there for those that depend on Cerebra and those that don’t know where to turn.
Enna Thea and Iris are doing something really wonderful to help support these children and families by raising funds at a time when it’s most crucial.
If you’d like to keep track of their progress and even make a donation to let them know that you’re right behind them, please visit www.justgiving.com/fundraising/ennatheaandiris
Best of luck Enna Thea and Iris and thank you again!
