The Government is carrying out a consultation on its vision of how to reform children’s social care in England.
This vision is called ‘Stable Homes Built on Love’ and is the Government’s response to three separate independent reviews and, as such, both it and the consultation cover a wide range of topics. The Government recognises this and explains that “you do not have to respond to every question; if you are only interested in one area of reform, then you are able to engage with only that aspect”: so feel free to only answer the questions that are important to you.
There is one question which will definitely be important to all parents and carers of disabled children, disabled young people and their supporters which we would urge you to answer:
Consultation question 8
What more can be done by the Government, local authorities and service providers to make sure that disabled children and young people can access the right type of help and support?
A document setting out the thinking behind ‘Stable Homes Built on Love’ and the consultation can be found here and the consultation itself here.
The consultation closes on 11 May 2023.
Help the whole family – Neurodivergent kids often have neurodivergent parents. We need services that understand our differences – that our brains work differently and may need different solutions. Are the parents and child’s needs both being supported? Is bureaucracy minimised? More funding is needed across the board.
My view is based on lived personal experiences, of both my neurodivergent child and being also neurodivergent myself .support needs to be best provided around the whole family
