Book Review | care | Library
Amongst the scariest challenges of caring for your disabled child at home is employing people to help you. Yes you can get Direct Payments from your local Council to pay them but you have to become an ‘employer’ and that is something most of us have never had any experience of.
Where do you even start! There are a lot of bases to cover, not lease employment law. Where do you advertise? what needs to go in a contract of employment? what are your obligations towards your employee? and what happens if it all goes wrong?
This book takes you through everything you need to know. It is easy to read. It gives you all the HR knowledge you need with checklists for every stage. There are really helpful ‘case studies’ describing scenarios that can occur and Top Tips at the end of every chapter. I can see it being a real ‘go-to’ for anyone employing care staff for their disabled child.
It is written by a HR specialist with a background in supporting parents and individuals who have care staff working in their own homes and is written in such a positive and informative way.
There is not much out there on this subject and this is a little gem.
