Cerebra’s digital library focuses on neurological conditions, but there are plenty of other ways to get free e-books and audiobooks online.
These are ones we have found that have resources for kids.
Oxford Owl for Home ‘help your child to learn’
- Has a free e-book collection for 3 – 11 year olds
- Includes Phonics section
- Has support for home learning for all school subjects, divided into year groups
- You have to sign up to use it
Book Trust ‘getting children reading’
- Has picture books on screen
- Press the arrow to turn the page
- There is either a read-along version or signed version
- No need to register
- Includes Home Time – learning from home activities
World Book Day website
- Has A World of Stories – free audiobooks to stream
- Also ‘Stay at Home’ learning resources and activities
- No need to register
Audible
- Currently have a selection of free audiobook stories to stream
National Literacy Trust
- Has Family Zone with Learning at Home resources
- It also has lots of links to other organisations’ resources
The Reading Agency Children’s Summer Reading Challenge
- Is still going ahead but in digital format
Lit2Go
- Has classic children’s literature audiobooks available to stream chapter by chapter
LoyalBooks
- Also has classic children’s literature e-audio to download or stream
BorrowBox
- The majority of local authority library services have a digital library through BorrowBox
- You’ll need to get onto the website for your own local authority library service to find out what they offer and how to sign up to use their BorrowBox library.
These include books for adults as well as children.
