Mum Emese told us that they lost most of her daughter’s toys to smoke damage during a house fire earlier this year. As eight-year-old Rosamund loves making sounds with instruments, they were delighted to receive one of our sensory drum sets from our Innovation Centre.
Emese told us all about her daughter:
“Mundi has Syngap1 which is a rare genetic disorder. She is non-verbal, has epilepsy, Autism, sensory processing disorder, sleeping difficulties and behavioural issues.
She can be very particular about things and has a great sense of humour. She loves water, trains, cars, bicycles, planes, certain music (others she can’t stand), exploring new places and following the painted white lines on football pitches. She keeps surprising us with new skills. She is growing and developing in her own way but of course we still hope that there will be a cure for her condition soon. Life without constant meltdowns would be great.
Mundi gets frustrated very often and has ideas that cannot be fulfilled. This can ruin most of our family outings. She has to be watched 24/7 as she has no awareness of danger at all. She has troubled sleep so often wakes up in the middle of the night. She has very short attention span so gets easily bored and she is constantly on the move in the house or wants to go outside. She can get sensory overload if taken to busy places, certain sounds make her upset, and she can’t wait in a queue either. She wants to enter doors and properties where she is not allowed.
It was so lovely to receive the drum from Cerebra. It’s beautifully made and will last our daughter for a long time”.
