“Our son is 11 years old and has Asperger’s syndrome. He is an animal lover and seems to know everything about dinosaurs. He is quiet but likes to challenge himself: for example he completed the high ropes at Bear Grylls on a freezing cold drizzly day. He loves his family, especially his little sister.
Nightmares are a real problem for him and can make him afraid to go to sleep. This has a massive impact on our family as we have to be super careful not to watch anything that might have strange/ freaky characters to images in it. He used to come into our bed every night which would result in broken sleep for me and being kicked for half of the night for my husband. Not a lot of fun! We thought we had tried everything.
We were desperate due to lack of sleep and because he was getting scared to go to sleep so we contacted the Cerebra Sleep Service. We received lots of information, ideas and support over email and the phone. Practical ideas such as what lights to use, relaxation techniques and encouraging or son back to his bed have worked really well.
His sleep routine has improved massively. He has longer stretches where he doesn’t wake up in the middle of the night. It still happens if there is a change of routine- for example when we came back from holiday after Christmas but we feel better equipped to manage these episodes and we know they will stop.
I’m really grateful for all the help and suggestions and would recommend Cerebra to all sleep deprived and struggling parents. Small changes can make a big difference but it can be hard to see these things without someone guiding you”.
